Download the Book to Your Hard Drive

Instructions

Note to Mac Users: You will need a program that can decompress the zip files. You cannot use the self-extracting files. Two good programs that can handle the zip file format are Aladdin DropStuff and Aladdin Expander. Both are free to the Mac users (demo versions) at http://www.aladdinsys.com/downloads or at http://www.aladdinsys.com.

Step 1: Before you download, create on your computer a directory called "Three Kingdoms" or something like that. You will download all the necessary files to that directory.

     Step 2:

If you have an unzip application such as WinZip, you can download the below file and unzip it. Choose the book you like, then right-click to save it:

Romance of Three Kingdoms without audio feature: rotk_v61b.zip (3.6 MB)

Romance of Three Kingdoms, audio version: rotk_v61a.zip (3.6 MB)

For Windows users: If you do not have an unzip application, you can download the following self-extracting file. After you have downloaded it, changed its suffix name to ".exe" and run it. It is a good practice that you should download this file from this web site only. ".exe" files from other sources may contain virus.

Self-extracting Romance of Three Kingdoms without audio feature: rotk_v61b.tmp (3.6 MB)

Self-extracting Romance of Three Kingdoms, audio version: rotk_v61a.tmp (3.6 MB)

Windows 2000 and Windows NT users: You need to download this file to your specific directory. Please download this file after you have unzipped/installed the rotk file above. agent_speak.js for Win 2000 and Win NT (4 Kb).

Step 3: If you choose the audio version, you have to install the Microsoft Agent software to your computer. Go to microsoft.com/msagent

.1. Download the Microsoft core component (MSagent.exe, 395 KB)
.2. Download the Genie character file (Genie.exe, 1.6 MB)
.3. Download the Merlin character file (Merlin.exe, 1.8 MB)
.4. Download the Robby character file (Robby.exe, 2.2 MB)
.5. Download the Peedy character file (Peedy.exe, 3.3 MB)
.6. Download the Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice Text-to-Speech Engine (tv_enua.exe, 1 MB)

After you have downloaded the files, install all of them.

     Note

If you do not install all four characters, you can still run the sound feature with the character(s) you have. But when an error message appears, just click to continue to run the script. The error message is due to the absence of the necessary characters; it is not a software problem.

You will need Windows 95 or higher. Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0+ is recommended. Other web browsers must be able to run Visual Basic Script.

Step 4: To read the book, open the "index.htm" in the specific directory from your web browser.
